Did anyone in your congregation have "perfume allergies"?
by BonaFide inover the years, in the congregations i have been in, there have been 4 different people with "perfume or cologne allergies.
anyway, they would always sit in the library, and at the bookstudy some years ago one sister would sit outside and comment through the window!
another sister would sometimes wear a white "surgical" mask in the hall.. the congregation i am attending now has a sister like that.

Yes I have known several of them, that sit in the library and gasp and wheeze. One sister wanted to go out in service but she had to pre arrange a group that was willing to forgo perfume, spritz, makeup, bath oil, even deodorant. Well I figured if I could give up my life for my brother, I could smell and look like an old goat for a few hours. At last I was rejected for my toenail polish (formalyde apparently).

May 15th WT- " Wife's Dedication to Jehovah more Important than Marriage "
by flipper ini wanted to make just a thread for this statement of mind control as it was very blatant .
in the may 15th witness only wt under the article "husbands, imitate christ's love !
" it states, " if you are a christian husband, remember that your wife is also your christian sister.

I could just never understand how someone could run a marriage or a family like this. Even when I was in neck deep, my loyalty was always to my husband. We have friends that just love to run to the elders after they have a fight, "Bob drinks too much and doesn't study with the kids". "Betty isn't a good housekeeper and doesn't give me my marital due". All the talk about 3 cords being stronger than 2 may be true, but not when every elder and who ever he tells knows your personal marriage business.
The same goes for children, when they have a problem, I could never see threatening to take them to the elders, how ridiculous. Same old story of chipping away at families so we can be better drones for the cult.

Can my kids were camo? Can I leave my cell phone on? Do I have to take notes? Can I save seats for those "not" in my car group? Can I take pictures with a flash during the drama? Can we put beer in the cooler? Can we frolic in the baptismal pool? I'm there!

Has anyone considered a joint effort to write a book about JWs?
by truthseeker inthere are plenty of books about the society out there but has anyone considered a joint venture - there's enough stories on here to fill a library.. a joint venture of several writers might be what we need to get the message out..

I got a couple of chapters for you. Rebel, got a good transfusion chapter. I think I responded to a thread from Awakened at Gilead a while back about his interest in compiling stories of how disfellowshipping affected people.

I Have To Touch It...Saddest Thing I've heard in a Long Time
by Tired of the Hypocrisy ini think i posted on here that i went to the memorial last week.
my wife's dad has been a jw for over 50 years and has never missed a memorial before.
he has been getting sicker and sicker and his wife the star pioneer still does nothing for him.

Thanks for sharing your experience. You were probably one of the few persons there living up to godly standards in a real life way. Good on you for doing something out of pure love for you father in law.

Another Newbie...
by CrazyBlonde ini have been lurking for a while, just joined.
nice to see there are so many others out there who feel/felt how i feel.... long story short - i was born into it, started having doubts about age 6, but what can you do when you have over controlling parents whose only goal is to make you a pioneer and ship you off to bethel so you can be like your goody-two-shoe brothers.
suffered through my school years being bullied with no friends - parents made sure that i was very different from other kids inc how i dressed and even what i ate to the point where i was apparently known as the ugly hippie.

I think it might be like a business territory where you would have to go through the office. Maybe ask to leave some literature in the laundry area or commissary. Of course we were always encouraged to witness informally in a place like that if we were staying there.

Hi Findingme. It is really weird being out at first, your son will surely thank you one day. I have found doing regular things that other people take for granted with their kids like soccer, school activities and parties helps fill the void and meet new people. You said you regretted not going to college, we both went back as adults. I made new friends there and love my career. Looking forward to hearing more of your story. Welcome.
